Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following full-time Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s and Ph.D programmes of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina for the 2018/2019 academic session.

UMYU Postgraduate Admission Requirements & Duration.

A. POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA

The following shall qualify for the Postgraduate Diploma admission:

  1. Graduates of recognized Universities;
  2. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Lower Credit pass or its equivalent in relevant areas;
  3. Holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) without Education obtained at Credit level with a three years relevant postgraduate experience;
  4. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the above, which are acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate and Senate of the University.
  5. Candidates with Third Class degree in areas other than Education can be considered after three years relevant postgraduate experience. Those in the Education may be considered in their area of specialization;
  6. All candidates shall be subjected to a selection process.

B. MASTER’S DEGREE

The following shall qualify for the Master’s Degree Programmes: –

  1. Graduates of recognized Universities who have obtained the approved Bachelors Degree with at least Second-Class Honors or its equivalent. Candidates with Second-Class Lower and additional qualification of a Postgraduate Diploma at Credit pass level from a recognized Institution will have more advantage.
  2. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the ones listed above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University.

The following shall qualify for Professional Masters’ degree admission:

  1. Candidates with any Bachelor’s degree in Third Class division who have at least five years relevant working experience.
  2. Candidates who possess Higher National Diploma (HND) with at least a Credit pass and at least a Credit pass at Postgraduate Diploma of a recognized Institution;
  3. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the ones listed above, which are acceptable to the Senate of the University.

C. MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (M.Phil)

The following shall qualify for Master of Philosophy admission: –

  1. Graduates of Universities who have obtained a good Masters Degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 on a 5 point scale shall be required to register for M.Phil/PhD and must score a minimum CGPA of 3.50 on a 5 point scale to proceed for PhD in the proposed area.

D. DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PhD)

The following shall qualify for the Doctor of Philosophy admission:

  1. Graduates of recognized Universities who have obtained a good Masters Degree with CGPA of 3.50 and above appropriate to the proposed areas of study;
  2. Graduates of recognized Universities who have obtained Masters of Philosophy degree with CGPA of 3.50 on a 5 point scale to proceed for PhD in the appropriate to the proposed areas of study;
  3. In addition to (i) – (ii) above, a candidate must possess at least a Bachelors degree in Second Class lower division;
  4. Candidates who hold qualifications other than the above, which are acceptable to the Board of Postgraduate School and Senate of the University;
  5. Candidate must state the proposed area of research and submit a synopsis of not less than 500 words of the proposed topic of research.

Matriculation Requirement:

In addition to A, B, C and D above, a candidate must satisfy the University’s matriculation requirements i.e five Credit Passes at the O’level to include English and Mathematics.

Selection Process:

All candidates shall be subjected to a selection process.

DURATION

  • Postgraduate Diploma (PGDE/PGDRD) – 2 Semesters
  • Masters in Resource Development (MRD) 2 Semesters
  • M.A/M.Ed./M.Sc./M.Sc.(Ed) – 4 to 6 Semesters
  • PhD 6 to 10 Semesters

How to Apply for UMYU Postgraduate Admission.

Interested candidates for all the Postgraduate Programmes can apply online via the University website (UMYU PostGraduate Application Form) from Thursday, 8th November, 2018 to Monday, 31st December, 2018 5th March, 2019.

All candidates are required to request their previous Institutions to forward copies of their academic transcripts accompanied by Form B, to the Secretary Postgraduate School, Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina.

This is to notify the general public that The University of Port-Harcourt, (UNIPORT) is now selling PGD and M.Sc in Centre for Marine Pollution Monitoring and Seafood safety (CMPMSS) admission form for the 2019/2020 academic session – see application and requirement below;


Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the Post-Graduate Diploma (PGD) and the Master of Science (M.Sc) Programmes of the Centre for Marine Pollution Monitoring and Seafood safety (CMPMSS) for the 2019/2020 Academic Session.

INTRODUCTION:

The National Centre for Marine Pollution Monitoring was established at the University of Port Harcourt in April 2009 for the implementation of the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA Technical Cooperation projects on the Environment with the emphasis on marine pollution monitoring. The projects are jointly supported by the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The Centre’s operation includes; Research, pollution and seafood safety monitoring, capacity development and information dissemination. Its programmes are centered on the conservation, protection and management of our aquatic resources

PHILOSOPHY:

The Programmes are based on the philosophy of training graduates with the knowledge on scientific principles that underpin 20thcentury environmental pollution issues. There has been a growing concern for many years over the impact of environmental pollution. Therefore, the programmes; M.Sc. and PGD in Environmental Pollution Studies aim to be ranked among the best environmental investigation, research innovation and knowledge transfer Centre in Africa. Emphasis will be based on offering standards that would enable graduates to build further upon their knowledge, skills and contribute to national development, self-reliance or entrepreneurship as well as propagation of knowledge in the field of environmental pollution studies. The Programmes will offer sound training with relevant practical exposure that will enable students to develop skills which will significantly improve intellectual capacity and critical reasoning required in every facet of the environment to address pollution issues.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Post- Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Environmental Pollution Studies

Candidate must possess 5 credits in relevant subjects (Mathematics, English, Biology, Chemistry or Physics and one other subject) at ordinary level School Certificate, in addition to B.Sc in Fisheries, Biochemistry, Crop and Soil Science, Animal and Environmental Biology, Microbiology and Chemistry, obtained from institutions recognized by the Senate of the University of Port Harcourt. The degree should not be less than Third Class with a CGPA of 2.00 on a 5-point scale.

  1. Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Environmental Pollution Studies

Candidates must possess 5 credits in relevant subjects (Mathematics, English, Biology, Chemistry or Physics and one other subject) in addition to B.Sc in Fisheries, Crop and Soil Science, Biochemistry, Animal and Environmental Biology, Microbiology and Chemistry or in any other relevant course obtained from institutions recognized by the Senate of the University of Port Harcourt. The degree should not be less than Second Class Honours or equivalent level with a CGPA of 3.00.

DURATION OF PROGRAMME:

The minimum and maximum length of time for a full-time PGD and M.Sc. Degree candidates are 12months and 24months respectively. In certain exceptional instances arrangement for Part-Time may be considered.

STRUCTURE OF PROGRAMME:

The programme structure is modular for each course highlighted below. Each module is taught alongside with continuous assessment, intensive practical and examination. In addition to course work, there are group projects; field trips to relevant sites to obtain practical experience and conduct research.

AWARD OF DEGREE:

Successful students at the end of the programme shall be awarded PGD or M.Sc. Degree in Environmental Pollution, applicable.
