How To Register For JAMB 2020 Using NIN

JAMB 2020/21 is underway, as such the National Identity Number(NIN) will be needed while registering for the exercise. It’s serendipitous to know what’s NIN, how to get yours and using it to register for this year’s JAMB process.

A couple of months ago, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has made known that the National Identification Number will be used for JAMB 2020 registration, which means that only candidates with a NIN will register for JAMB 2020 UTME and DE exams.
One of the reasons the board decides to use NIN for JAMB 2020 is that it will help solve issues of multiple registration and also alley pre and post examination misconducts.

What’s NIN

Before going to how to use NIN, let’s know what it is.
The National Identification Number known as NIN, is a unique 11 digit number that is used as a valid means of establishing or verifying individual identity. It has been consequential due to the fact that it tie all records about an individual into the National Identity Database.

How To Get Your NIN

To register and get your National Identity Number, all you have to do is to visit the nearest NIMC Enrolment Centre close to you. Go there with any of your documents like your Birth Certificate or with your BVN if you have one.
If peradventure you’re not with any of these documents, just check the list below and see any of the documents you may have and carry them along:

  1. Old National ID Card
  2. Driver’s License
  3. Voter’s card (Temporary or Permanent)
  4. Nigerian International passport
  5. Certificate of Origin
  6. Attestation letter from a prominent ruler in your community
  7. Birth certificate
  8. Declaration of age
  9. Attestation letter from religious/traditional leader
  10. NHIS ID card
  11. Government staff ID card
  12. Registered/recognized private organization staff ID card
  13. School ID Card (private/public)

On at the centre, here are the procedures to take for convenience:

  • First, you will be issued an enrolment form to fill
  • Applicant’s forms will be vetted by a NIMC Official to crosscheck the information filled on the form against the supporting document provided and to check for errors/mistake filled on the form.
  • Your pre-filled information will be inputted on the NIMC Software by a NIMC enrolment officer or the Barcode slip will be scanned by the NIMC enrolment officer to populate all the required field.
  • The enrolment officer will ask to double check your information for errors using the applicant monitor.
  • If the applicant is satisfied with his/her demographic information, the biometrics (ten finger prints and facial image) of the applicant will be capture subsequently.
  • A National Identification Number (NIN) Slip is issued to you after processing which contains the pin you need to apply for Jamb 2020.

You’re done with registration to get your NIN, you can now proceed to register for your 2020 UTME or DE examination

How To Retrieve Lost NIN

You can check and retrieve your National Identity number if you mistakenly misplaced your NIN slip and forgot your National Identification Number, by visiting any NIMC office or licensed agent.
Or to cut short the journey, open your phone USSD menu and dial *346# code and your NIN will display on your screen. This service is not entirely free as it will cost you only N20.

How To Register For JAMB 2020 With NIN

As said earlier, your National Identification Number is a compulsory requirement to process your JAMB registration. Without it you won’t participate in this year’s process. We take a look on how to apply for your JAMB forms with your NIN pin.

  1. After getting your Identification Number, you should also have the JAMB ePIN, which will be given after paying for the form. At the JAMB accredited CBT Centre, you will be required to present for completion of registration. The name of the candidate as typed by the candidate on his/her phone when registering the profile comes up automatically on the input of the e-PIN by the CBT centre
  2. You should pay NOT more than N700 as Service Charge to the CBT Centre
  3. Next, provide your Biodata information which includes Date of Birth, Nationality, State of Origin, Local Government, Gender, e-mail address, among others.
  4. You will chose your choice of institutions and programmes (disciplines) from the portal.
  5. Provide qualification with grades and dates, if you are not using awaiting results.
  6. This is important, please tell the CBT Centre to upload your relevant certificates, like WAEC, NECO if not awaiting result. This is what will be used for your admission.
  7. O/L and or A/L grades are to be provided by candidates. Candidates who are awaiting results should supply the results online as soon as they are available on JAMB’s portal. No recommendations from any Institution will be considered by JAMB if the candidate has not supplied his/her result on the JAMB portal.
  8. Supply JAMB registration number for previous institutional certificates (for DE candidates only)
  9. Provide UTME subjects and choice of examination town(s) for
    (a) Mock examination (optional)
    (b) Examination for UTME (actual examination)
  10. Do picture capture (no scanning of passport photograph)
  11. Do Biometric enrolment (ten fingers)
  12. After inputing all your information, to avoid future complication, just take some minutes and review the entries and confirm correctness
  13. Next, print your Registration Slip USING BIOMETRIC AUTHENTICATION.
  14. Please ensure to collect the reading text and CD which will be given to you at no cost.
  15. Note: Each Candidate is to collect his/her e-slip at the end of registration as evidence of registration.
  16. Please also know that no candidate should register at any centre other than the accredited CBT centre and JAMB State-Offices. Any candidate who is registered outside approved centres will be automatically disqualified and will not take part in the exercise.

In summary to this, All JAMB candidates are required to come along to CBT Centre with their NIN in other to enter it at the point of registration as all information required will be uploaded from the data captured by the NIMC.
As a matter of fact, candidate’s name as entered on the NIMC database during registration will be the same as the one on JAMB’s data registration form.

What Else Can I Use NIN For?

People may be enquiring about the use of National Identification Number aside using it to register for JAMB. The unique NIN has many advantages as it can be used in:

  • Obtaining JAMB 2020 registration Form
  • Obtaining your National e-ID card
    travel (international passport application & acquisition)
  • Opening personal bank accounts
  • Getting your driver’s license
  • Obtaining your Permanent Voters’ Card
  • Payment of your taxes
  • and any other services prescribed in the Federal Government Gazette to be used with NIN.

What You Should Know About NIN

Here is a quick review of what you should know about the Identification Number.
Please note that the NIN consists of 11 Numbers randomly chosen and assigned to an individual. You can do a check on yours when given, if not complete, message NIMC for rectification.

  • The National Identification Number is assigned to an individual only once. Once given, it can never be reassigned, or used by another person.
  • In the case of the death of a user, his/her NIN is not valid any longer once a death certificate is presented to the Commission.
  • All citizens and legal residents in Nigeria, from age zero (birth) and above are eligible to enrol and have their National Identification Number.
