I just found a lot of things while traveling to Miami, what documents do I need to go?

These are common questions for me. It is essential to meet the requirements before booking an international flight of any kind: you might hate missing your vacation because you depart from the airport!

You will need a passport. In January 2007, Canadians traveling to the United States requested a visa. You can still travel by car, train, or bus without a passport, but as of January 2008, these travelers also need a passport. I recommend getting a visa now if you have travel plans. Your passport must be valid for at least six (6) months after your return to Canada.

How do I get a passport, and how long does it take?

It depends on your situation, if you have a Canadian passport issued after January 2002, there is a new simplified process for obtaining a new visa. Canadian citizens applying for their first passport or renewing a passport issued before 2002 have a more complex application to submit. If you are a permanent resident (land migrant) in Canada, you are not allowed to apply for a Canadian passport, and you must follow a completely different process.

All application/instruction forms are available at the local post office. Be sure to check Passport Canada for unique situations (my passport has been stolen!), Updates, and office locations to apply in person.

    Simplified passport renewal

If you are an adult looking to renew a passport issued after January 31, 2002, and do not need to change your name or replace a lost, stolen, or damaged passport, you may be able to take advantage of the new request. Simplified passport. This option is only available for people residing in Canada who are 16 years of age or older and living in Canada when the previous visa was issued.

This application allows you to bypass the guarantor process, to avoid providing proof of identity, as well as a birth certificate or a nationality card. You must submit the application form, two new (2) photographs, an $ 87 processing fee, and your old passport.
Personalized passports can be ready in less than two (2) weeks. Registered passports take at least six (6) weeks.

    Standard passport application

For those who do not have an adult passport issued after January 31, 2002, you must use the full application. This may be your first passport application, you were under the age of 16 when your last passport was issued, or you resided outside of Canada.

For these applications, you must have a guarantor, but the new rules allow almost everyone to reach someone who can sign them. Many Canadians, under their passports, can now vouch for themselves. You will need to submit an application form, a fee of $ 87, proof of identity (i.e., driver’s license), two photos (2), and evidence of original nationality.

Like a simplified application, personally deposited passports can be ready in less than two (2) and six (6) weeks by mail.

What happens if I am a permanent resident (migrant on the ground) in Canada and not a citizen?

You will need to make sure you have a valid permanent resident (PR) card. This is necessary to return to Canada after your flight. If you are unsure about the PR process, you should contact an immigration specialist like me or the Canadian Department of Citizenship and Immigration.

Generally, processing RP cards take approximately 6 to 8 weeks.

You will also need to carry a valid passport from the country of citizenship. If the current passport is not valid, you will need to contact the embassy or consulate of that country in Canada to request it. Please note that the duration, costs, and some documents required vary considerably from state to region. Some will be able to renew their current passport the same day; others will find that it takes several months and includes a lot of supporting documents.

Depending on the passport you hold, you may need a visa to enter the United States. The United States does not see Canadian citizens and permanent residence in the same way. US authorities will treat you as a citizen of the country holding your passport. Be sure to check this condition several months before traveling: US visas usually take weeks or months to arrange.

    Repeated errors

When applying any kind, be sure to sign it! Be sure to include everything required on the checklist, including fees.
If your passport application requires you to provide original proof of nationality, make sure you know the location of the birth certificate or nationality certificate! Passport Canada will not accept your current Canadian passport as proof of citizenship. If you need to replace a birth certificate or original document, be sure to submit a lengthy application in advance!

Make sure to read all Passport Canada instructions carefully before applying.
